The Bitcoin SV (BSV) cryptocurrency appeared in November 2018 as a hard fork of the Bitcoin Cash cryptocurrency, which itself was a branch from the original Bitcoin. For this reason, the Bitcoin SV (BSV) cryptocurrency is also sometimes called Bitcoin Cash SV (BCHSV).
As a result of the Bitcoin Cash hard fork, the network split into two cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin SV was one of the two coins that emerged from the Bitcoin Cash hard fork, the other coin being Bitcoin Cash ABC. After the Bitcoin Cash hard fork, holders of this cryptocurrency who had their private keys or stored their Bitcoin Cash coins on exchanges that supported the hard fork received an equal number of Bitcoin Cash SV and Bitcoin Cash ABC coins, however the trading platforms stopped supporting Bitcoin Cash. So, on cryptocurrency exchanges, instead of one Bitcoin Cash cryptocurrency there are now two – Bitcoin Cash SV and Bitcoin Cash ABC. Because the incompatible Bitcoin ABC and Bitcoin SV clients were promoted by different development teams, this led to a further divergence in the price dynamics of these cryptocurrencies.
The Bitcoin SV team stated that its vision is to restore the cryptocurrency protocol to its original form, ensuring stability with only a limited and well-known set of changes, including restoring the Satoshi opcodes, in order to allow companies and developers around the world to build many technological solutions based on the BSV blockchain, such as smart contracts, tokenization, atomic swaps and much more.
Bitcoin Cash SV also supports scaling which, according to its developers, will allow the BSV blockchain to support significantly higher transaction volumes and higher transaction fees for miners. This is important for miners to maintain profitability, since the block reward on the original Bitcoin Cash blockchain is to be halved in 2020 (from 12 to 6.25 BCH per block), and in subsequent years will be reduced even further.
